Mexican Shabbat Menu

Mexican Shabbat Menu photoOne of the great things about living in the San Francisco Bay Area is the abundance of ethnic foods. Unfortunately, many of these are not kosher certified, but you would be surprised what you can find. There are a number of brands of salsa, both fresh and in jars, canned chiles – chilpotle in adobo sauce, jalapeno, and hatch, and numerous types of tortillas. For a fun Shabbat dinner or lunch, I like to serve make-it-yourself tacos with the choice of fillings.  This meal works well for meat eaters and vegetarians. These days, you can even add parve cheese and sour cream if your heart desires. If I have extra time, then I make my own flour tortillas. It gives me an excuse to use my tortilla press.
